Research on Leadership Strategies for Effective PHC delivery in Nigeria
NPHCDA; 2019
In 2019, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) contracted Preston Associates for International Development (PAID), to conduct a study on “Leadership Strategies for PHC Delivery Effectiveness in Nigeria”. This study was designed to better understand the organizational reforms in PHC delivery and management, effectiveness of the reforms in addressing identified service gaps, and the impact on disease outcomes and processes for institutionalization, among others. Particular emphasis was put on the leadership and governance systems driving these reforms.
Six study states were selected, one from each of the geopolitical zones in the country, namely Edo, Enugu, Oyo, Bauchi, Kano and Niger States, and the Federal Capital Territory. Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) were conducted between November 2019 and April 2020 with NPHCDA’s Senior Management and Technical Staff, as well as representatives of development and governmental partners at both National and Sub-national levels.
